My Monday: White Christmas -Irving Berlin/Crosby

I sang a verse of this song as a solo in 3rd grade school chorus. I have a fond memory of drying dishes with my Dad as we practiced singing the song together, he already knew all the words.

Freedom Friday: I Left My Heart in San Fancisco -Cory/Cross (Bennett & Garland)

I'm spending Thursday through Saturday with my mom flying to and from SF to see my sister and her husband. We hope spend time chatting, walking on the beach, eating out, playing with Scruffy, and watching her sister-in-law perform Wagner (see earlier Tuesday posts).

Throwback Thursday: Simple Man -Lynyrd Skynyrd

Throwback Thursday: There are Worse Things -Grease

I'm having so much fun working with great people on Annie Get Your Gun and will share more on that tomorrow. To stay within the rules of T-back Th I'm posting a song from another musical that is a favorite of mine from the late 1970's.

What's New Wednesday: Peanut Butter Jelly -Galantis

I just happened to pack a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich for lunch today. Here's a song for dancing and letting loose:

Sleepless nights at the château
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Kush kush wherever we go
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

To get a wildfire burning
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Ace high, I'm going all in
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Spread it like peanut butter jelly
Do it like I owe you some money [x2]

Money, money, money…
Spread it like [x2]
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Spread it like
Sleepless nights at the château
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Kush kush wherever we go
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

To get a wildfire burning
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Ace high, I'm going all in
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Spread it like peanut butter jelly
Do it like I owe you some money [x2]
Money, money, money…
Spread it like [x2]

Visualize it
I'll give you something to do
Spread it like
Spread it like

Visualize it
I'll give you something to do

Spread it like
Visualize it
I'll give you something to do [x2]

My Monday: An Old Fashioned Wedding -Annie Get Your Gun

Counterpoint is always exciting and this song is a wonderful example.
The gal playing Annie from my school can, as my Dad used to say, "really belt it out."

Freedom Friday: Moonshine Lullaby -Annie Get Your Gun

There are so many great songs from this musical, I actually like all of them!
This video has a different take using cowboys, my school's 'kids' are HS students so they sing the cowboy parts.

Throwback Thursday: -True Colors -Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi Lauper is often remembered, and rightly so, for Girls Just Want to Have Fun. I always loved this song too. A wonderful message of supportive vulnerability. My sisters have always supported me and my true colors, I couldn't be more thankful to be on this journey of life with them.

You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
Its hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow

Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow

If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors
True colors
Shining through

I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow

Traditional Tuesday: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg -Wagner

My mom arranged for us to visit my sister and her husband's family Thanksgiving weekend. We will be attending the performance of my brother-in-law's sister Frances who is part of an opera company with the above title slated for this month. As is typical, it takes about 10 minutes to get the gist of the plot that will take the musicians about 5 hours to perform. Here is a link with a simple version: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Meistersinger_von_N%C3%BCrnberg
I am posting a video of the opera, I plan to listen to it throughout the next few days.

My Monday: Hallelujah (Buckley/Cohen)

This mellow tune and minimal accompaniment paired with these powerful yet simply stated lyrics stills my soul. An author I greatly admire (Brene Brown) relates parts of her childhood to the lyrics "how to shoot at someone who outdrew you" in her book Rising Strong, she encourages us to learn how to safely be vulnerable.

The first time I remember hearing this song was in the movie Shrek, thus my video choice:

Freedom Friday: Sweet Home Chicago -various artists

My parents met in Chicago around this time of year in 1956. I love picturing them falling in love as they explored this big city together far from their homes in rural VA and NY.

This video feeds on my addiction to musical collaboration, enjoy!

Throwback Thursday - Everybody Wants to Rule the World -Tears For Fears

Here's another example of being glad I can google lyrics.

Enjoy these lyrics, video, hairstyles, and fashion with awe.

Welcome to your life; there's no turning back
Even while we sleep we will find
You acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Ev'rybody wants to rule the world

It's my own desire, it's my own remorse
Help me to decide. Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Ev'rybody wants to rule the world

I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never, never, never, need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
(sorry this video fades out here....)

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

What's New Wednesday: Hello -Adele

Very minimal, very somber, and regretful The song is missing someone who is not connecting anymore. The first time I listened to this song I focused on the lyrics not knowing the meaning behind it. Music captures emotion so thoroughly.

Traditional Tuesday: Autumn mvmt I, Four Seasons -Vivaldi

The back and forth of the soloist and orchestra. A must to celebrate all that is autumn: cooler air, bluer skies, and the colorful foliage.
