[Traditional Tuesday: Mahler Symphony I Movement I]
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, oh, playfully, watching me
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, oh, responsible, practical
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, oh, intellectual, cynical
There are times when all the world's asleep,
The questions run too deep for such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned?
I know it sounds absurd, but please tell me who I am?
I said now, watch what you say, they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh, fanatical, criminal
Won't you sign up your name?
We'd like to feel you're acceptable, respectable,
oh, presentable, a vegetable!
Whoa, take it, take it, take it, yeah!
But at night, when all the world's asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned?
(Won't you help me?)
I know it sounds absurd,
(Please won't you help me?)
But please tell me who I am,
who I am, who I am, who I am?
Yeah!
'Cause I'm feeling so logical

Did that advertisement with this song indicate to pick it? I keep seeing that commercial.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like Mahler's 1st for Tuesdays. I have a classical suggestion (maybe for Friday?): Shostakovitch 5th Symphony, Movement 1. The Mahler video, with Bernstein, reminded me of a great video of him doing Shosty's 5th.
We played the 4th movement in Orchestra, but the 1st is my favorite. Bernstein get's into it. If you listen to this piece, make sure he's conducting and they're wearing white tuxedos (performance in Tokyo?).
I'm glad to have your approval for Tuesdays and suggestion for Friday (not being sarcastic).
DeleteAs far as the advertisement goes I don't see it. Is it annoying? should I embed a different video? I picked this song because it was one of my very favorites for years.
"Breakfast in America" was one of the few albums that I owned as a kid (along with "Lost Without Your Love" by Bread and albums from Peter Paul and Mary and a Steve Miller Band).
Actually, "Logical Song" is the what was in the Ad. I should clarify, this is an Ad that I've seen on TV recently, playing that song. I was curious if you prompted you to pick it (maybe subconsciously?).
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uUddkfxQFM here is the ad.
I don't have a conscious memory of this advertisement.
DeleteFunny coincidence? or Subconscious prompting?
Both are possible.
