Freedom Friday: 54th Street Bridge Song-Simon & Garfunkel

When I 8 years old I was given the lyrics to 54th Street Bridge Song (not as accessible back in the 1970's) and I worked hard to memorize them. I thought of this song when my son asked for his 54 degree club on the golf course early this morning. As he swung his club I went over the words in my head and thought, this is actually the perfect song for us at this moment. The lyrics challenge us to not rush through life (or golf games), as we often tend to do. Here are the lyrics and a video of an early live performance.

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.

Hello lamppost,
What cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.

Got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.
